As a leader in radiation monitoring, we provide the accurate and reliable services you need to simplify compliance. We've built our services on advanced OSL dosimeters to deliver a verified record of exposure. Our commitment to excellence is demonstrated through the technical characteristics of our service and the precision of the readers, while our compliance and accreditation provide you with a fully defensible record and complete peace of mind.

Radiation Monitoring

Achieve accurate and reliable radiation monitoring that simplifies your workflow for full compliance.

Personal radiation monitoring is the continuous, precise measurement of a worker’s exposure to ionising radiation, including X-rays, Gamma rays, and Beta radiation, during their occupational duties. This process requires the use of specialised equipment, such as our OSL Technology dosimeters, which are worn by the individual. The goal is to provide an accurate, non-destructive reading of the cumulative radiation dose received over a specified monitoring period.

Accurate radiation monitoring is foundational to workplace health and safety in any field handling radioactive materials or radiation-producing equipment. It serves two primary functions: firstly, it monitors the radiation exposure of your team by checking that their exposure levels remain within the regulatory prescribed limits; secondly, it provides your organisation with a verifiable, defensible record required for full compliance with national regulatory bodies. Consistent, reliable monitoring guarantees that you meet your regulatory obligations and proactively manage occupational risk.

Our radiation monitoring service uses advanced OSL technology for maximum accuracy and efficiency. The service operates on a clear cycle: you receive the personalised OSL dosimeters, your team members wear them as prescribed for the monitoring duration, and then you return them to our SANAS-accredited laboratory. Using precise  OSL readers, we measure the exact dose received. The OSL method is a non-destructive analysis and allows for re-readings, offering an unparalleled level of data assurance for every result we deliver.

Once the dosimeters are analysed, the resulting data is managed and presented to you in comprehensive dose reports. We provide this information securely via our dedicated client portal, which serves as your central hub for compliance data. This platform allows your Radiation Safety Officer to quickly access individual exposure summaries, track historical trends over time, and download official records. Our commitment is to simplify the management of this critical data, so every report is fully auditable and compliant with South African standards.

OSL Dosimeters

Get a verified record. The whole-body re-analysis capability is a key feature of our latest technology, delivering enhanced protection.

Our Optically Stimulated Luminescence (OSL) technology dosimeters represent the current gold standard in personal radiation monitoring, replacing older technologies like TLDs (Thermo-Luminescent Dosimeters). The core technology uses aluminium oxide (Al₂O₃) crystals, which stores energy proportional to the radiation dose received. This solid-state material is stimulated by light during analysis, allowing us to read the precise cumulative exposure without requiring complex heating processes.

OSL dosimeters offer exceptional sensitivity to low doses, for accurate measurement even in minimal exposure environments. This high precision is critical for organisations committed to the ALARA (As Low as Reasonably Achievable) principle. Our technology delivers a consistently accurate measurement across a wide range of energies and doses, providing you with verifiable data that is completely defensible in any regulatory context.

A key feature that makes OSL technology inherently more reliable is its re-analysis capability. Unlike older destructive methods, the OSL process leaves a residual signal, meaning the badge can be re-read and verified multiple times if required. This provides an unparalleled level of data assurance. OSL dosimeters are far less sensitive to environmental factors like heat and humidity, so the integrity of your dose data remains intact throughout the monitoring period.

The physical design of OSL dosimeters allows for greatly versatile monitoring across all required occupational exposure scenarios. We offer a comprehensive suite of OSL types, including:
  • Passive Whole-Body Dosimeters: The InLight badge assesses deep and shallow dose equivalents, making it suitable for monitoring personnel, environmental areas, and emergency responders.
  • Extremity Monitors: Ring dosimeters used for personnel who work directly with hands-on sources, such as in nuclear medicine.
  • Lens of Eye Dosimeters: Specifically designed to monitor exposure to the eyes, which is increasingly regulated.

OSL Readers

The OSL Readers are central to our service. These precise devices are where your dosimeters are analysed, and your official dose measurements are finalised.

At the heart of our SANAS-accredited dosimetry service lies the advanced OSL Readers. These devices are the dedicated instruments that complete your dose measurement journey. This technology maintains the integrity of the OSL signal and guarantees that every measurement we provide is precise and reliable, cementing our reputation as a trusted provider of radiation monitoring services in South Africa.

The OSL readers use the Pulsed Optically Stimulated Luminescence (P-OSL) process. This sophisticated technique involves stimulating the OSL material, the aluminium oxide crystal in the dosimeter, with pulses of light. The stimulation releases stored energy (the radiation dose) as light, which is then measured by the Photo Multiplier Tube (PMT). The P-OSL method is faster and provides superior sensitivity and greater signal-to-noise ratio compared to other reading methods.

Designed for high-throughput laboratory environments, the OSL readers dramatically increase the speed and efficiency of our dose analysis process. Their automated nature means we can process your returned dosimeters quickly, significantly reducing turnaround times and ensuring your team receives their accurate, updated dose reports promptly. This efficiency supports continuous safety management and rapid compliance checks for your organisation.

The OSL Readers are engineered for high precision and stability so that your measurements remain consistently accurate across wide dose and energy ranges. This guaranteed accuracy is critical. We achieve this by using internationally recognised and scientifically validated reading technology, eliminating the potential human error and variability common in less sophisticated systems. This methodology delivers a result you can fully trust.

We further advance measurement accuracy by providing your facility with a control dosimeter. This device is kept away from the radiation source and is used to subtract background radiation, thereby providing you with the accurate net occupational dose your team received.

The integration of the OSL readers is a testament to our unwavering commitment to compliance with global and local regulatory standards. The reliability and integrity of the data produced by these devices means that every dose report we issue is fully auditable, defensible, and meets the stringent requirements of SANAS and SAHPRA. This technological foundation provides you with complete peace of mind, knowing your records are legally sound.
