Our services

Dosimeter Services is an award-winning service provider that was established in 2017 and SANAS (ISO/IEC 17025:2017) accredited in June 2018

Dosimeter Services won the Elekta Award for best presentation and the SABS Award for Best Research performed in the field of radiation dosimetry at the South African Association of Physicists in Medicine and Biology (SAAPMB) congress in 2019.  The research was chosen to be presented at the International Radiation Protection Association (IRPA) conference in Korea in 2020.

We meet the following regulatory requirements :

  • South African National Accreditation System (SANAS) accredited (T908)
  • South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) – Radiation control (DS0908) approved
  • Member of the steering committee for the National Dose Registry: National Nuclear Regulator (NNR).

We pride ourselves by offering excellent service to all our customers, large or small, while always maintaining strict COVID-19 precautions.

The work horse (OSL Reader)

The Landauer OSLR 5O reader utilizes a High-Powered Light Emitting Diode (LED) AND Pulsed Optically Stimulated Luminescence (P-OSL) technology to achieve better separation between the optical stimulation spectra (green region):

Uses LED (Light Emitting Diode) to stimulate the detectors

Light emitted is measured by a photomultiplier tube (PMT) using a high sensitivity photon counting system.

Amount of light released during optical stimulation is directly proportional to the radiation dose.

A dose equivalent estimation algorithm is applied to the measurement.

How does OSL technology work?

Wearing the dosimeter - Electrons are trapped in OSL material when exposed to radiation.

Read-out process - Trapped electrons are freed through stimulation with light.
